Krista was born and raised locally in Anchorage. Fortunate to have been raised by a family that places great value on service and volunteerism, Krista’s enthusiasm for helping others transitioned into professional aspiration during her two years of Americorps service. Through her service at Emmaus Services for the Aging in Washington DC, Krista championed intergenerational programming focused on building community relationships between inner city school aged children and isolated older adults. Krista obtained a Bachelors of Arts from George Washington University in 2002 and continued her education receiving her Masters in Social Work from the University of Alaska Anchorage with emphasis on study in lifespan development and behavioral healthcare.

Prior to opening Pemberton & Young Counseling in 2018, Krista’s work experience includes 4 years Clinical Social Work practice at Providence Alaska Medical Center, and 8 years of private practice experience providing individual, family and group therapy at Fuller Diagnostics LLC.  Krista counsels individuals and families on a variety of issues including grief and loss, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, ASD, family violence, life change adjustment, infertility, and chronic illness. Krista employs a variety of therapeutic interventions including crisis counseling, brief solution-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR and psychodynamic approach designed to enhance individual outcomes for each client. Krista strongly believes that client strengths and self determination are the most important tools for growth and change and is committed to enhancing these qualities through the therapeutic relationship.
